Free Download of Windows Beta 7 Announced

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer speaking at the Consumer Electronics show in Vegas this evening announced that Microsoft Windows 7 Beta will be available for download starting Friday January 9th.

Ballmer was this year’s Keynote Speaker at the CES and he used the opportunity to announce several upcoming Microsoft releases including the software giants newest Windows operating system.

I will try and get in line for the download sometime Friday and will start running the new OS through its paces over the next several months so I’ll be ready to advise my clients and online readers.

In his keynote address Ballmer recognized the weakness in the recent Vista version of Windows and says Windows 7 will be simpler and more reliable. Of course the Microsoft guys say that with every release.

I waited several months before I adopted Vista as the operating system I would use. However until Service Pack 1 for Vista was released I did experience quite a few problems with the widely criticized operating system.  I still recommend hanging in there with Windows XP Service Pack 3 until Windows 7 proves itself for most of my clients.

Windows 7 is scheduled to be released in in the fall of 2009 and Microsoft must realize that after the lukewarm reaction to Vista they are under tremendous pressure to release an operating system that works out of the box.
