Christmas Shopping and Computer Security

Many of us started our Christmas shopping online yesterday also know as Cyber Monday.

However, as we shop online this Christmas season we need to take computer security into consideration.

Make sure you are taking a close look at the websites you are going to…

Is the site the one you expect?

Are you on Amazon.com or Amezon.com (Example only) a phishing site set up to look like Amazon.com.

You need to be careful as the scammers out there will take advantage of the frenzied rush to buy online and create some deals to good to be true to attract you to their phony sites to steal your credit card and other personal information.

Now some of the fake site are obvious…

Full of misspellings, bad grammar and misaligned columns and graphics.

Sometimes you can barley distinguish the fake from the real thing.

The only difference to the eye is the web sites URL…

The website address is slightly different as in my example of Amazon.com or Amezon.com.

So look closely at the sites address and overall appearance before proceeding.

Also make sure you are shopping on a secure website indicated by the lock icon on your address bar or when you use Vista the website address will be highlighted in green.

Also make sure your anti-virus and anti-spyware is running and updated.

Out of date anti-virus software will offer little protection as hackers, spammers and scammers are constantly changing their software attacks.
